Staying active in Oak Bluff West

The New Year is upon us and many people use this as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf by becoming more active. Regular exercise has incredible health benefits that can improve your mood, lessen the risks of chronic diseases and improve sleep quality. We’ve all heard of the many advantages of exercise but it can be difficult to know where to begin; especially during the harsh winter months where many outdoor activities are out of the question.
Joining an indoor club will not only help you to become more active during the winter but it’ll also allow you to meet new people with the same interests. Clubs will deepen your knowledge of a chosen activity and will strengthen self-confidence. Not to mention, if you’re doing something that you enjoy it’ll relieve stress as well.
Here are some indoor activities near Oak Bluff West to help you stay active through the winter.
Pickleball
Play pickleball at the Oak Bluff Recreation Centre or at Oak Bluff School. This sport is a mixture of ping pong, badminton and tennis. It’s played with two or four players who use a wooden paddle and a plastic whiffle ball. Drop-in classes are available on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Yogalates
Yogalates is a combination of Pilates and yoga which focuses on core strength, flexibility, balance and relaxation to create long lean muscles. This class is offered in the Oak Bluff School gym and is held every Thursday evening from January 31 to March 21. Registration closes on Thursday, January 24.
Core Sculpt
Core Sculpt is held in the Oak Bluff School gym and focuses on resistance training. Use sliders, bands and your body weight to sculpt muscles throughout your body. Classes always end with a nice stretch to increase flexibility as well. This class runs every Tuesday evening from February 5 to March 19. Registration closes on Tuesday, January 29.
Yoga for Men
This class is designed to introduce men to the benefits of yoga by developing strength and endurance while increasing balance and flexibility. Yoga will also improve range of motion and will help cultivate relaxation techniques to help manage stress. Yoga for Men is held in the Oak Bluff Recreation Centre on Monday evenings from January 14 to March 18. Registration closes on Monday, January 7.
Pilates
Pilates offers full body conditioning and will improve posture, strength and flexibility. This is a great class to include into any workout regime and can aid when recovering from an injury. Pilates is held in the Oak Bluff School library on Wednesday evenings from January 30 to March 20. Registration closes on Wednesday, January 23.
