The life of pioneer women in Manitoba
Nov 04, 2014
Free presentation at Sanford Legion, Thursday, November 6.

If you’re interested in the role women played in the settlement of Manitoba, you should consider attending Winnipeg author Oriole Veldhuis’s free presentation this Thursday, November 6 at 1 p.m. at the Sanford Legion.
Veldhuis will be speaking about her book For Elise: Unveiling the Forgotten Woman on the Criddle Homestead, which chronicles the story of how her great grandmother Elise sailed from England and helped create a successful homestead in Manitoba.
The family arrived at their homestead south of Brandon in 1882, about a decade after Manitoba entered confederation. Veldhuis has taken hundreds of letters, journal entries and official documents and transformed them into a novelized biography.

The Sanford Legion is located on Railway Avenue near the corner of Main Street in Sanford, Manitoba, which is about a 15 minute drive south of Oak Bluff on Highway 3.
