Halloween frights and delights!

Photo of pumpkinsWith Halloween just a couple weeks away it’s time to get in the spooky mindset with activities around Winnipeg. There are a number of activities for those who love to be scared silly or for those who don’t want to be scared at all.

Ten minutes South of the Perimeter (take St. Mary’s Road) you’ll find yourself at A Maze In Corn in St. Adolphe (1351-200 Provincial Road, St Adolphe) where you can enjoy spooky family-friendly activities. The gates open at 6:30p.m. Thursday and Friday and 3:30p.m. Saturday and Sunday until Halloween for you to walk through the Haunted Forest where you’ll be greeted by scary ghouls and fall visitors. Come prepared to be scared! Admission to the forest includes a walk through the corn maze. Visitors can also see the pumpkin barn filled with farm-grown pumpkins, a petting zoo and hayrides. Haunted Forest admission is $18.

For the little ones, head out to Spooktacular Fun at Shelmerdine Garden Centre at 7800 Roblin Boulevard in Headingley. Geared at kids aged three to 10, this not-so-scary indoor playground features a hay maze, tire swings, bouncy castle, ziplines and face painting. A great (spook-free) way to get into the Halloween spirit.  $5 per child; proceeds benefit local children’s charities.

On October 31 Fort Whyte Centre will be offering hands-on activities for kids including pumpkin carving and a spooky scavenger hunt, beginning at 1p.m. There are a limited number of pumpkins so arrive on time!

What’s considered to be the ultimate (and scariest!) Halloween attraction around Winnipeg can be found at Six Pines Haunted Attractions, half a mile north of the Perimeter Highway on Sturgeon Road (a 22 minute drive from Oak Bluff West). The park is open from Noon until 5:30p.m. for toned-down daytime activities and reopens at at 6p.m. for the ultimate scare, (evening recommended for ages 16+). During the day families will be able to visit Mother Goose and her petting farm, go on a hayride, walk with Snow White and her friendly woodsman and go through a maze with helpful clowns.  For braver children there is the Barn of Doom. Enjoy a heated sitting area in the gift shop. Tickets are $15 for day and $25 for night.

Have fun and Happy Halloween!
