Keeping the kids active over spring break

Mar 19, 2015
Spring is in the air and with the change in season comes a break from school!

This year’s break takes place from March 30 until April 2, and the city’s most popular children’s destinations are prepared with daily activities to keep the kids busy.

Education and fun come together for kids age 12 and under at the Children’s Museum. Special guests and daily activities will get your child moving and thinking all week long. Whether it’s building a life-size motorcycle, making friends with a reptile or conducting science experiments you’re sure to have a smile on your face. All activities run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and are included in the regular price of admission. If your child would like to spend the entire week at the Children’s Museum, they also offer a week-long Spring Break Camp

After the museum head over to The Forks Market for its signature event, the 15th annual Festival of Fools! Over the week of spring break, March 28 to April 3, the market will come alive with clowns, magicians and musicians and your own chance to get silly with circus and trapeze workshops! Performances take place every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and all pass-the-hat donations are in support of the Winnipeg International Children’s Festival.

For kids who just want to bounce and fly with their friends, nearby Skyzone Indoor Trampoline Park offers a half-day and full-day camp all week. From 9 a.m. until noon or 4 p.m. you can jump around in the open jump, take part in a giant dodgeball camp, jump in the foam pit and slam-dunk a basketball! $30 per half-day or $49 per full-day.

For a quick round of fun (or for a few rounds of fun over and over!) head over to Lasertopia on Waverley. Games will be run every 15 minutes during spring break. After lager tag, try your hand at the navigating the laser frenzy maze, getting some strikes in glow bowling or having some fun at the arcade. Open from noon until 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

Of course, spending time outside is always great for our health. Spend some time walking the near-by trails, or taking a day trip through the wilderness at FortWhyte Alive to keep active and enjoy the beautiful spring weather.
